TV Guide is reporting the following:
“Hey, Uppity Ausholers, Gossip Guy here with a piece of prattle that’s going to make your ingrown toenails curl.
I’m hearing from an extremely reliable source that a male character on Gossip Girl will be revealed to be of the gay persuasion when the show returns on April 21. Who? Can’t say. Won’t say. It’s too good a surprise. I will, however, offer five tantalizing clues.
• This person may or may not be pictured above. [the picture is of Dan, Nate, and Chuck]
• The revelation significantly impacts the lives of at least three people.
• The aftershocks will be felt on both sides of the East River.
• Some viewers will be surprised by the twist, others not so much.
• In the Gossip Girl novels, Dan was known to be a bit of a switch-hitter — which isn’t so much a clue as it is a fact. A misleading fact? Perhaps. Perhaps not.

It’s bad enough that I’m so into this show; I’ve never read the books nor do I plan on doing so. Of the 5 main male characters on the show, I think the most likely candidates are Eric and Chuck, for very different reasons. I never considered the possibility before but now that it’s out there, I can see it. Eric tried to kill himself for reasons not entirely clear and it can easily be argued that Chuck is overcompensating. That’s just my take on it. Should make for interesting plot twists, though. Nobody in my suburban public high school was openly gay, so I wonder how that dynamic will play out in the polar opposite of an academic setting? I also wonder why I’m expounding upon such inaneness when I’m supposed to be writing a 5-page draft of a term paper on international LGBT rights? Time to toggle!
