I can’t hate you, even when I try. I hate that even more.

Yankees/Phillies World Series! This is a dream come true, i.e., Mets fans’ worst nightmare (if you knew my friends, you’d understand). Fingers crossed for #27! And just for the record, I was born and raised a Yankees fan.
At least the whiskey was free. It wasn’t going to be easy. And I tried, I swear, but sometimes it’s better to leave. So I did. When the train finally arrived I found a spot to the right of the opposite door. I leaned against the window, pushed my ear buds in, and found a song. Be still my heart. For the next couple of minutes, everything was ok.

I have a throw pillow my mom gave me years ago that reads, “I am the author of my life.” But if that is true, how come I don’t get to choose which main characters remain in it?
Tangentially, my best friend (who also became a fan of Irving’s after I made him read The World According to Garp - by far my favorite of the 5 novels I’ve read by him) recently accused me of making up the world ‘parenthetical’.
