NYT Book Review of 'Hope - A Tragedy' by Shalom... →
I’m really looking forward to reading this book, especially since I consider this description of the author to be a compliment of the highest order:
He is an absurdist with a deep sense of gravitas. He brings to mind Woody Allen, Joseph Heller and — oxymoron here — a libido-free version of Philip Roth.

I really don’t know why I don’t watch (and by watch, I mean dvr) this show. Hilarious!

Sentimental Moment or Why Did the Baguette Cross...
Don’t fill up on bread I say absent-mindedly The servings here are huge My son, whose hair may be receding a bit, says Did you really just say that to me? What he doesn’t know is that when we’re walking together, when we get to the curb I sometimes start to reach for his hand

friend: a little asian baby girl
me: Ugh, my dream
I've long been obsessed with asian babies
friend: a nice chubby one
me: I once googled "fat asian babies in costumes" but the results were very disappointing
friend: i'm laughing at my desk
its really disapointing that you can no longer use lol to express that you are laughing out loud, it was such a time saver

D: i got a card from jane. she said she's very happy you said yes and that you're a special person.
me: Aw, that's so sweet.
...unless she put special in quotes.
D: she drew a little helmet over the i
me: Yeah, because love is a battlefield.
D: well, her husband was a wwII fighter pilot, so she knows all about that
Driving home from work a little while ago, I heard Elton John’s “Your Song” and thought of my dog. Don’t tell my fiance.

My most considerate significant other planned an amazing birthday weekend of [intended] surprises, wherein we saw War Horse at Lincoln Center, shot archery, had drinks at a really cute little cafe/bar with friends, and went to klezmer brunch and Economy Candy with my favorite people. As if that weren’t enough (and it was way more than), my sister-in-law baked me an eggless three-color cookie...

The Griddled Cheese sandwich at Cookshop (Cabot cheddar, candied pecans, nectarines, whole grain mustard, market lettuces) is the 2nd best I’ve ever had.
Thank you, Sunday, for helping to ease the transition from an awesome Saturday (dinner at my favorite Indian place, Our Idiot Brother, and an episode of Arrested Development with my best friend, her husband, and my boyfriend) to a full-on case of the Mondays (being guilt tripped by my mother for not calling her yesterday, even though I was with her all day Saturday). Nobody does it better.

To go into Manhattan later and feel guilty because my mom implored me not to due to the ‘credible’ threat of a terrorist attack this weekend or not to go into Manhattan later and feel stupid because really…just, really?
Guilty or stupid? The lady, or the tiger?
Let’s be honest here. I put my life in my hands at least 6 times/week, driving to and from work in rush hour...

The other night, my boyfriend and I watched Me and You and Everyone We Know. (We might have watched it before but neither of us could remember.) I don’t really get it. I mean, I get it, but I don’t get it - ‘it’ being all the to-do regarding Miranda July.
Saw Great Lake Swimmers at City Winery last night. Really nice space, beautiful music, fantastic beer (Mad River Brewing Company’s Steelhead Scotch Porter). The food was also pretty good. A highly recommended venue. Now I’m extra excited for klezmer brunch there in a few weeks!
